Workers

I’m often drawn to photographing workers because of how they interact with their environment and also because they don’t appear self-consciously vain. I want to return to this theme in the future. For portraits, I prefer a shallow depth of field, but when trying to capture a dynamic pose, camera movements are really necessary. With my Chamonix 4x5, lens swing requires loosening a screw, moving the front standard, adjusting focus, and then tightening it all back down. So far, I’ve found that very difficult to do quickly. I love the camera, but I’ve also got my eye on an Arca Swiss 4x5 F-Metric, which is designed to facilitate these rapid movements.
